The Treaty of Waitangi Explanation

The Treaty of Waitangi

Why is the Treaty of Waitangi so important to New Zealand? The Treaty of Waitangi was made so it could protect and help both British and Maori share the land without it being stolen or purchased, though, in the end, the crown gave some of the lands back just not to its original owners.

Well, the Treaty of Waitangi was made to protect Maori culture along with its traditional knowledge. The Maori wanted their culture and knowledge to be recognized and respected. The Maori had forests and lands that were to not be taken from them because of the protection they got from the treaty, the crown also got the Maori’s protection back and the rights of the British subjects.

For instance, the Treaty of Waitangi is still important to New Zealand ever since its signing. It is New Zealand’s history and is the telling of how New Zealand became how it is today. Today the treaty is widely accepted to be a lawful document that provides and guides the relationship between the crown in New Zealand and Maori.

The Treaty was also made not just for the agreement between the British and Maori but also for peace between them. New Zealand’s founding document was meant to be a partnership between Maori and the British. It was intended to create unity, but different understandings of the treaty and breaches of it have caused a war. The Maori who agreed to sign did it because they wanted the British to make laws about behavior, the Maori who signed the treaty trusted that the British would make laws that would be good for both them and the settlers. But badly enough from what happened in Taranaki, the laws were good for the government and settlers but not for the Maori.

The owl who couldn’t hunt

Long ago in the forest of animals, there stood a clumsy owl. The owl was very terrible at hunting for mice, every day the owl had slept and every night the owl had tried to hunt for food. But every time the owl tried to hunt they hit tree by tree, getting hungrier and hungrier, then one night when the owl was about to hunt the bright full moon had shone over the bright yellow eyes of the owl and had reflected making the owl see all types of creatures in the forest. The owl was shocked and flew through the thick trees finding the mice camouflaging with the dark. The owl was as quiet as a mouse and had landed on a tree looking down at the mice waiting for the perfect time to grab them. Counting down, the owl got its wings ready to grab the mice just below, then SWOOSH the owl grappled onto the mice making it hard for the mice to try and wriggle out. Bringing it back home for dinner, ripping out its insides and devouring it bit by bit.

The End.

The Black Cat

The Black Cat

It was a thunderous night, while I was in a rush to work. I suddenly slipped on the concrete and hit my head. It started to bleed out and suddenly I was unconscious on the ground with no one around. By the time I woke up I was in the same position on the concrete but this time I didn’t know where I was. It looked like I was in this alley with this black cat just wandering around. He had no collar, no owner, no nothing. He must have been a stray cat. I didn’t care much about that, what I cared about more was where I was and what time it was. I was about to check my watch but then I realised it wasn’t there. “This is strange,” I got up off the ground and started to walk out of the alley. I got anxious because I got negative vibes around here.

The mother and daughter on the wonder ship

“Sleep well darling, as we will all be here when you wake up,” I told my daughter as the Titanic sank underwater. As the ocean pulled the Titanic down, teardrops fell I never thought about my death till now. I thought my child would live longer…till today took place in the calendar of the unexpected. As the ship sank creaking, screaming, and yelling were all I could hear, my child was asleep and I could start to feel the cold freezing water. “I’m sorry you had to die this way,” whispering to my daughter as we drowned with the Titanic.

As I walked down a sidewalk, I could see an elderly man sitting on a bench all by himself. As the snow fell I could see a bright red rose in his hands. He seems sad by the look on his fac, it was cold and misty I couldn’t bother to let him sit all by himself. I went to the elderly man and sat next to him. I didn’t know what to say. Staring ay the rose, he asked, “Have you ever lost a loved one?” I sat in silence for a bit then saying “Yeah..” as I thought about it the poor guy must have lost someone today. As he looked up in the sky he said, “My name is Chris” I replied with “and my name is Hannah,”  “Pretty name you’ve got,” Chris had said,” Haha thanks” I replied, “tonight looked beautiful don’t you think?” Chris had smiled and said “Thank you Hannah, you’ve really made me happy” As I turn to look over and see Chris was fading away. “Wait!” I exclaimed, “why are you dissapearing!?” As I tried to grab his arm he became transparent I sit in slicence looking to the sky and close my eyes sitting under the post lamps as the sun started to rise. as his soul flew into thee after life, he can finally be with his loved ones.

The 2 shoe makers

The 2 shoe makers

“Hey! That was my customer!’’ screamed George,

“Too bad maybe I just have better shoes than you’ll ever have.’’ Thomas said with a smirk on his face.

“I have been selling shoes here for more than anyone else who has been here! And you think you can steal them?’’ George said in an angered tone.

Thomas whistled as he showed off the customers’ money to George, “You wont be getting this in a while’’ Thomas said laughing while watching George walk back inside his store.

“Oh I’ll show you customers money,’’ George had mumbled as he got out all his tools and started to make a shoe that he thought Thomas would never be able to beat.

The next day George walked out of the store showing off his brown shoe that he had been working so hard on.

“Pfft that pathetic thing is what you come up with? Hahaha!’’ Thomas laughed hysterically, as Thomas pressed a button that said copy at the bottom of his truck with his crane his truck started to shake and shake. Within a few seconds his shoe rack became full with all the shoes looking exactly like George’s, “Beat that!’’ Thomas said with an evil look.

George looked at the exact copy of shoes that Thomas had made but just more colourful, “Hey! That wasn’t fair, you can’t take my shoes and just make them your own!’’ George said in an angered voice.

“Well looks like I can’’ Thomas said

George walked back inside and thought of giving up until his shoes came and told George the plan with their shoe looking language. “Hmm that sounds like a good idea but I don’t think it’ll work.’’ George said in a sad voice. As George walked out of the store going towards Thomas, he was nervous and anxious about the idea until he got to Thomas.

“There you are,’’ Thomas said, “I see you have seen the note?’’ Thomas asked, as George gave the box and the note. “Well done,’’ Thomas said in a cheerful tone, “ Looks like somebody finally knows they can’t beat me.’’

George walked away as Thomas put on the golden shoes that were inside the box and then started to tap dance or just dance around.

George turned around “Ha! It worked!’’ George exclaimed as Thomas danced away and George lived happily ever after.

Task decription: This is my writing about two shoe makers that we had to do a conversation about and we had watched 2 videos. One of the videos were about learning how to use speech marks and when and where it could be said in a story and the 2nd video was the video about the two shoe makers that weren’t talking so we could use creative ideas and think of what they were thinking at least to make up our conversations. We couldn’t do a conversation that wasn’t themed with this story but we had to do a story that was related to the theme that the 2nd video had.

The twisted world

The twisted world

Some trees extended more towering than the cliffs. Damp moist soils were there wherever you looked, only elves never got lost. Everyone else that was different from elves would get lost and perish a few months after. Elves could climb trees and hop from one to another. It was quick and they’d be as quiet as a mouse if they tried to stalk for food.

The elves were well protected, by their leader Sade. He was a warrior to the elves to others, well not so much. Sade would always be a show-off to everyone and flex his story to the elves of the forest. Even the creatures were aggravated by the same stories every day. The elves all gossiped about Sade in shallow voices. There stood an elf and her name was Zala. She had blonde and brownish hair with dark forest green armour, and she had hazel eyes with vines surrounding her armour to help it stay together.

She didn’t care about Sade no matter how much he gossiped about his story, she’d always get annoyed if someone told her about it. “I know, I know!” Zala said, “You don’t have to come to me every day expecting me to say, “Wow! I  didn’t know that” there is no point in his stupid stories if it’s not even true!” Zala said in an angered voice.”

Zala walked away with a red-tempered face, all the elves were looking at her. “Don’t worry,” Sade said, “she’ll come back,” But no one heard because they were too observant and focused on their conversations. And Zala stormed off to the soiled mountains, and sat on the edge of the mountain, Staring at the sky and hearing birds chirp and glide their way to their nesting homes. She questioned herself. “Why does nobody believe me?” She cried in a quiet voice. Did something catch her attention? Something…bright? She ran across the trees to the flaming light that grew brighter the closer she got the more that she could see, her curiosity just wanted to investigate it more.

By the time Zala reached the light, there was a levitating bright hole right in front of her. What could it possibly be? And why out of all places here? Could it be a portal leading to another dimension? Is it safe? So many questions Zala had that nobody could answer anyways. There were just so many questions in Zala’s mind that made her want to go inside it, so she did, and eventually fell from the sky. She screamed her lungs out. “AHHHHH!” her heart was beating at light speed, and her eyes widened with butterflies in her stomach. Then It was a few seconds before she tumbled to the ground, wounding her left arm as blood crept out of her skin and plunged group by group onto the damp wet soggy ground.

“Where am…I?” Zala said in a painful still voice, as she observed her location. Her face changed, as she lifted one eyebrow and the other down in curiousness. “This doesn’t look like home..” her voice shifted from an angry-tempered growl into a sorrowful sad voice. A twig fractured, leafs crinkled, Zala quickly did a three-sixty to see if anyone or anything was around but no, no one was there. She trudged quietly through the forest until she found an oversized immense castle towering taller than the forest. There was a loud rhythm that played in the sky, it sounded like the father clock, it got louder and louder, and as she covered her ears the sound just disappeared? “huh? How?” she questions herself. She ignored whatever happened and observed the castle from afar.

It was a pitch-black castle and thunderstruck above it, waves pushed back and forth but, extensive waves came back more decisive every time it happened, the castle placed on top of brutish rocks. There was this white pale lady that had black-pitched eyes and a white gown dress with paled skin her hair reached her ankles and it was dark brown. Zala hid behind the trees and disguised herself with damp wet soil and leaves. As she observed and breathed quietly the white lady had wandered around the castle, but how long exactly? Zala was the only elf and person there well except for the ghost of course.

Zala didn’t know what to do so she did what any stupid person would do in a story like this. She jumped into the water, and started to drown, she jumped in at the wrong time, Zala’s hands were trying to grasp to the surface but no. Something was pulling Zala’s right leg down to the ocean floor, “Help!!” Zala’s scream muffled underwater. The white paled lady heard and flew into the ocean, just staring at Zala, saying a spell or curse of some sort, and poof. Just like that waking up to reality, maybe it was a lucid dream but it surely didn’t feel like one. Who was that lady anyway? A relative? A lost spirit? What did the clock mean? What was the thing in the bush?

Year 7 Step up

Last week on Wednesday on the 18th of May, the year 8’s went to a leadership camp for three days. The year 7’s stayed at school and did something called a year 7 step up program while the year 8’s were gone.

One of my favourite things about the year 7 step up was the puzzle art that we had to do with Miss Hill. She was the leader of the team Mighty Kiwi for the first rotation of the block and day. What we had to do was draw different types of colours on a puzzled paper we got given. Some were bird pieces and some were words. I was given words and it was easy to draw but I took my time on drawing so it looks nice.

The year 7’s had a movie on Friday with popcorn in the middle and last block of school because the program for year 7 and 8 were ending. We were watching the movie Soul and Raya and the Last Dragon, quietly because it was a time to relax from all the fun we had and a time to remember. While the year 7’s were eating popcorn there was something at the bottom, curiosity struck me as I reached for the bottom and found 3 types of lollies at the bottom, there was a lollipop, and 2 small squared lollies.

During these 3 days I was nervous of what we were doing while the year 8’s were gone but it was fun anyways because I got to hang out with different types of people and I also got to talk to them while trying to do participation type of activities. I didn’t enjoy it when we yelled at each other during the time we had to work together but we learnt from it at the end and worked together.

Mushroom Land

Mushroom land

Years ago, Mushroom land was a glorious place in the sky above of what reality was down below. No one knew if it was existent or non-existent because there was a protective barrier that made it invisible all around, the creatures were phenomenal and remarkable in all sorts of ways. But that dream then vanished in dark thick air when something then started to spread in the distance of the land, screaming and horror spread out as loud as sirens. Forest green poisonous fire expanded onto the glowing mushrooms, it was a blood night when it happened no one knew why exactly tonight.

All the creature’s hopes faded away for a saviour, No creature knows what or who could save them, the creatures think that no life form would be able to make it onto their land but they “think”  that not knowing it, there’s still a chance something or someone could make it…

A few years later…

“Hurry up!” Harper exclaimed, running at high speed, “I’m TRYING!” wailed Dexter, Calvin just walked, already knowing they were going to be late. As soon as we arrived at school we gave a loud gasp for air “we…made..it!” Harper cried, but the bell had rung long before they had arrived. The disappointed look on Harper and Dexter’s faces was priceless! How would Calvin know they were going to be late in the first place he was the one walking. Anyways as Harper, Dexter, and Calvin entered the school they got lectured by the teacher about how they are always late and always slow. It was an hour’s worth of lecture, and they were tired of all the words that sprouted out of his mouth. They ran to class after that thinking that’d be the end of all their problems,

Six hours later….

“Finally,” Calvin said with an exhausted look on his face “how about you guys come over to my house?” Dexter questioned “sure” the others had replied, as they all walked to Dexter’s house with exhaustion something appeared in front of them in the middle of the street that was blocking them from walking. It was a void of darkness as they started to clench their eyes to see what kind of thing it was. It had already started to suck them up inside of it Harper screamed “ah! help!” but it was already too late for anyone to help them. They got sucked into the deep dark mysterious portal sending them to the magical land that was known to be a legend….Mushroom land…..Harper, Calvin, and Dexter all fell from the sky onto a mysterious land filled with…Mushrooms? They were all confused as they all looked around with curiosity not knowing what they had to get out of.

“Huh?” Harper said with curiosity, “Ow! My head hurts!” Exclaimed Dexter, “ugh your head is fine,” said Calvin “stop being dramatic,” said Calvin, as they walked down a path with so many questions in mind they were also thinking of how to get out as well. As flying creatures spread throughout the land they touched and glanced at every detailed thing there. “Wow!” Harper exclaimed, “this is cool!” Dexter Replied. Running through the meadows of chocolate and candies with mushroom trees, one cat, in particular, someone named Cheshire, a blue invisible cat that flies around with a mysterious smile, one to make you happy or one to make you mad. “Hi” with a low voice Cheshire said, “I can help you find your way home,” he said in a very mischievous voice, as they walked through a dark disappearing forest filled with drooling oil from the very river that leads straight into the forbidden forest.

“Are you sure this is safe?” Calvin Questioned Cheshire, “of course, it isn’t” replied Cheshire, “why? Did you think this was going to be a safe trip back home?” said Cheshire, they continued walking in silence and awkwardness down the path through the dying oak trees. “Wow” Harper responded in a disappointing scared voice, “yes indeed, it has always been like this, and we have been waiting for our saviours to come and solve this mystery for years, and no one has yet to come except for you three.” replied the puzzling cat. They all walked in silence, up and down the old hills that started to sink, until they saw something great in the far distance. “Is that- a miniature castle?!” Dexter called, “no, no, no you’re getting it all wrong!” replied Calvin, Cheshire didn’t want to float around waiting for their flesh bags to reach that castle so he picked every one of them and decided to hurry there before it was too late.

45 minutes later…

As they started to arrive at the castle they all looked down at it, “and you’re telling me we have to save this tremendous land by walking into that small castle,” Harper, Dexter, and Calvin laughed. “hahaha” “you must be joking!” said Calvin, with no hope at all the Cheshire cat was mad. “You all must listen to me! There will be terrible danger and consequences if one thing goes wrong.” Demanded Cheshire, they all thought about it at first, and what consequences did the cat mean? Of course, no one would know but curiosity was always so close to asking why. They all went back to the start where they came from, and it was back at the mushroom mountain. It was a high sky-scraping tower that reached the outer atmosphere.

“Oh no,” Replied Harper, “how are we gonna get there?” Calvin exclaimed. “I don’t know but we have to get there somehow.” replied Dexter, ” I think I know away but I don’t think it’s gonna be a foolproof Idea.” Responded Harper, as Harper looked around for a very jumpy-looking mushroom.

“There,” said Harper, “we can use these jumpy looking mushrooms to jump into the sky and try to aim for the tippy tip of Mushroom Mountain, we only have one chance at this so make it worth it.” as darkness started to spread closer to the mushroom mountain and the creatures of the land started to fade away, everything started to get gloomier by the minute. “hurry!” screamed Harper, Calvin went first, “1,2,3!” Screamed Calvin as he lifted off the mushroom going high in the sky aiming for mushroom mountain, hoping he could make it, and then he did! Dexter went next. He jumped onto the mushroom and up he went onto the platform of the mushroom mountain standing there with Calvin and waiting for Harper.

“Hurry Harper!” exclaimed Dexter and Calvin, “there’s no time!” said Harper, “just grab the key and slide down the mushroom mountain!” As Calvin grabbed the key Dexter went down first then Calvin went down next, it was chaotic as the mountain started to fade away “quickly!” said Harper, they all ran to the miniature kingdom as swiftly as they could. With horror in their eyes, they quickly open the door with the key accidentally breaking it, accepting their fate, as they hug each other until the end.

They all gasp, “what is this? Have we…come back to Earth?”  but like in every story, it can’t just end like that. Harper got up off the ground, seeing these yellow wallpapered walls, some had scratches on them and the carpet was filthy like no one was ever there. “This looks like a maze..” Calvin said with a worrying voice, a black voided creature growled and Harper, Dexter, and Calvin all hesitated as they all got goosebumps. “D-Did you hear that,” Dexter said in a whispering voice, they all stayed together and hugged each other, we have to try and escape this place, but since we might be here for a little while we should name this place…maybe the “BACK ROOMS”  legend has it they still are trying to find their way out. To this day, they may have not survived… Or did they?
