Chemical Or Physical Change?

Task Description:

Today for the last session of the day, we had to do our last inquiry task before we start getting into physical hands on science experiments. We had to match the chemical and physical reactions to each other. I thought about each one when I was doing this. I think I got most of them right! I hope you enjoy looking through these (maybe last)inquiry slides.

Practical Percentages L4 –

Task Description:

Today for maths we had to do these percentage problems, we are learning to calculate percentage and try and find the right answers to them. I found this quite challenging from my understanding, I watched the videos to see if they could help me sort of understand how these problems work and what I could do to solve them. I then tried to figure out the following questions with the information I got from the videos. I found the videos very helpful and I managed to complete this task and put it on my blog! I hope you enjoy going through the slides and seeing my answers to these equations!

Pi-thons recap of fractions and decimals

Task Description:

For today’s task we had a recap task on fractions and decimals before we move up a level on maths. As I was going through this task I focused on the questions and answered them. I tried my best and tried to get this done efficiently, this task wasn’t to hard for me, I hope you enjoy going through these few slides!

Why children shouldn’t drop out of school

Why do kids need to stay in school

  • We only live once

I’ve heard one saying a lot and that saying was that we live once, but that isn’t true. We live everyday and instead we die once. So it’s better if we live to the fullest in our lives, that way it would be memorable for us growing up. I think that if some kids were to trouble themselves it would make their lives worse growing up. Education and learning can help other kids like me be successful and be something great.

There are doctors, nurses, firefighters, police officers and so many other great people that started where we are. They didn’t just grow up really rich or have no education and get a job, they actually worked hard and kept climbing to the point where they achieved what they wanted.

  • What’s the point of school?

Children need education, it’ll help a lot as students start to grow older. It’ll also help them learn new things and be able to obtain knowledge about different cultures and other communities . School teaches kids how to communicate with others and be able to make new friends

  • Why do specific subjects matter?

There are lots of subjects in school and college. But the one most people would normally get would be maths, reading and writing. Maths involves understanding numbers, shapes, and equations that are difficult to solve. Reading, there are difficult words students sometimes don’t understand, this is why teachers and school help students learn the meaning of them while at it. The last subject is writing, writing helps improve students’ spelling, punctuation, descriptive language and so much more.

This is why education helps students understand subjects and collect knowledge that is useful to us. If school didn’t exist all these amazing things in life wouldn’t be here, thanks to teachers, principals and builders and so many other people for what we have today. All jobs have a purpose to do something exciting, dangerous or just adventurous. They all have a purpose for things we need.

Atoms and Molecules – Inquiry

LI 5: We are learning that everything is made out of different combinations of atoms and that different materials have different properties.

Everything is made up of different combinations of these atoms. For example, water molecules are made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. That is why water is also called H2O.

What is the difference between a molecule and an atom?

Atoms are smaller than molecules and atoms are made up of one single particle, where as the molecules are made up with more than one atom

Site

Atoms also come in different sizes, depending on how many electrons they have. An oxygen atom is a lot (16 x) larger than a hydrogen atom.  Draw a picture (and take a photo) or create an image on google draw of a water molecule H20. It contains 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Example = this is a carbon dioxide atom.

Different materials have different properties. For example, they have different melting and boiling points, different mass (weight), density and some are stronger than others. This is caused by their molecular structure.

We need to keep this in mind when designing different products. For example, we make saucepans out of metal because they won’t melt on our stoves. However, if we tried to place a plastic pan on the stove it would melt because it has a lower melting point. We can create strong metal by creating a metal alloy (by combining one type of metal with another metal or element). These alloys can be stronger than the metal on its own.
