Land Wars – Summary

The New Zealand Land wars happened between 1845 and 1872. The battles happened at different times in different places, while the wars were all separate. They all started because of the same problem, the biggest problem was that they were selling lots of lands, forcing Maori to move from their homes. Pakeha was making deals with the Maori to buy land, they might trade land for guns or other items, Governor Grey was the pakeha man in charge at the time. Kind of like the prime minister, he ordered the British troops to rule Wellington.

North Island Māori saw how much land was being sold and wanted to stop or slow down the land sales. The Governor ordered troops to attack. There was a series of battles, some won by Wiremu and some won by the British troops. However, the British troops were forcing Māori to retreat and leave their land. In 1861 a truce was signed between the two sides. This meant that they agreed to stop the fighting.

The Landlady – Letter from Billy

Task Description: Today for literacy I did a letter being Billy from a story called “The landlady”. I Had to act like Billy and write a letter to his friend. I chose a nice name Christopher Montgomery to be Billy’s friend. We’re learning about suspense and tension. We are also learning about foreshadowing, foreshadowing is when you add hints or clues to a story and then later on in the story something exciting, dangerous or scary will happen that will surprise the audiences. Here’s the letter:

Dear Christopher Montgomery, as I am writing this letter to you, I am currently in Bath city in a hotel called “Bell and Dragon”. I feel quite nauseous and I am feeling like a headache will come. Something tasted off about the tea I had recently, But I drank my tea as a polite gesture of kindness to the lady who gave it to me. I feel really sick and ill at this time, I don’t know if I’ll be able to attend work tomorrow. I think this situation is a misunderstanding, maybe she has expired milk, since she can’t even remember the years her other guests had come over. Perhaps I shouldn’t assume the worst of this situation since it’s tea.

The lady that had let me in had also talked about how she had stuffed her deceased pets inside a recreation of other animals. I found that a bit weird considering the fact she couldn’t smell it either, I felt surprised when she said it with such a normal reaction. I’m sure she’s gone crazy already.

The lady was looking at me like I was a new human or something. I asked her politely “Do you know where Christopher Mulholland & Gregory Temple are?” I asked in fear, shaking. “Yes dear, they’re both on the third floor but trust me don’t go in there” She laughed mysteriously. I was so scared that I went up the stairs into my room and thought about whether I should go on the third floor or not. It was late night 12:00 pm, I went slowly out of my room to go to the third floor. As soon as I knew the old landlady was standing there looking like a demon screaming to some people. I was really afraid that she might take me next to the third floor and kill me!

She had also complimented me on how tall I was and my age. I didn’t find that weird or anything since I’ve seen a lot of elderly women like her say this kind of thing. But then it got weirder when she then started to talk about how she didn’t see a blemish on Mr Temple’s body, I was taken back by this. “What?” I questioned, how could she say that, unless she has seen his whole body. I was now anxious about this place, what if Mr Temple and Mr Mulholland were the same people? What if they never left? What if they were the same person and this lady was the one that kidnapped them.

She looked at me like a vulture in the sky circling their prey, she stared at me ever since my arrival. I also feel uncomfortable with this, though this is the cheapest place to stay, she had even stared at me while I was drinking my tea. It was the caring look either, it was very disturbing to me which scared me as well. I think I’ve fallen into her trap, I think I now realise that she put something in the tea I was drinking. If I do not send another letter within five days. Please investigate this place, I have a feeling I might go missing like Christopher Mulholland & Gregory Temple.

Kind Regards, Billy

Cast out

Cast out

Walking out from a scene in the dark of night, from an abandoned warehouse with limbs torn to pieces with thick red liquid splattered all over the place. A white mask and black clothes, not much information to who’s doing this. They’d always leave a purple hyacinth on the bodies that lay dead in the dark of night. It’s now a foggy morning as the police station is as busy as ever figuring out who is on the run of murders.

(Fun fact: The hyacinth that the killer leaves on the dead bodies they had killed, symbolises forgiveness, saying sorry for killing them) =)

“Found anything yet?” questioned Aayan, “No,” replied Nivera. “You’ve been in here all night, how are you not tired,” Aayan asked. “Purple hyacinth is still on the run, how could I possibly be resting now?” Nivera replied. “I just think that it would be best if you rest since me and Blythe are on night shift today. “Fine,” Nivera got up from her station and headed out to the cafe that was nearby.

As she went to sit down a stranger had sat down with her, she sat in silence for a bit. The stranger had rattled on about how beautiful she was, her hair was as red as the roses in gardens, her eyes were as fiery as the sun that shone above all. She had got annoyed and had gotten up from her seat to leave, the stranger had then grabbed Nivera’s hand by force, “hey, we were just starting to have fun, why are you leaving?” He asks, she then grabbed his other hand and twisted it until he had let her wrist go. He let go of her and she walked out, she had seen her friend, and their hair was as blue as the sky and their eyes were as gold as treasure.

“What happened?” Blythe had said. “Nothing,” Nivera had replied. (A few days later) “I’ve got it.” Nivera said, “The purple hyacinth is a meaning of forgiveness, but why?” Nivera questioned herself. “I just don’t understand, why would the murder do this,” Nivera said.

It is now the dead of night and another murder has been done, the investigators search the house as to where the crime had been. “Another body on the ground, guess what evidence we found of it.” One investigator said. “A purple hyacinth,” they said. “There! The murder is jumping from one another on the roof!” A stranger had said.

Nivera, her friends and the rest of her group ran as quickly as they could to get to the murderer. Then the squad had come between two paths, Nivera knew that they would lose the person who was on the run. She had climbed up one of the buildings close by and kept running, while the other officers had splitted up between the two paths. Running as fast as she could, the murder was just too fast for her to catch.

Then the person had jumped down from the roofs of houses and went down into an abandoned alley, Nivera followed as close as she could before they had been at a dead end, “I’ve got you now, you can’t run now,” Nivera says, while panting. In silence the two had circled each other, then fists fought one another, blood splattered on the ground. Until their eyes met and the figure fell over, surprised Nivera, came up close and pointed her gun directly at the figure’s head. “Take the hood off now,” She says. As the figure took off the hood, a male who had golden eyes, with the dark blue night sky for hair. “Join me,” He says. “What?” Nivera replied. “You heard what I said.” He replied. “What’s your name?

“Why should I tell you? You just tried to kill me.” Nivera said while still pointing the gun to his head. “You know what, you’re not worth my time,” As Nivera was about to arrest him he went bouncing on to the roof. “We could have been friends, oh well” He says. “We both want revenge on the same group, so if you’re interested meet me here, at midnight tomorrow.” As he threw the card down, he left and so did Nivera. “Oh you came,” The murder said, “My name is Kieran,” “well my name is Nivera” Said Nivera. “Well we both want to destroy the black fox. We both want revenge for what they did. I don’t know why but my eye just caught yours, so don’t take this personally.” Replied Kieran, “Well, we’ve got to make a few rules if we both are in on this.” Said Nivera. “And that is?” Kieran Questioned. “No personal questions and No looking in on each other’s information.” Said Nivera. “That’s alright with me,” replied Kirean. “Ok then it’s settled.”
